Closure

Wildfire closures around Ryvoan and Glenmore

Avoid the wildfire exclusion zone around Ryvoan: access to several trails, paths, car parks and destinations is currently closed. - Closed access: the Ryvoan Pass between Glenmore and Forest Lodge near Nethy Bridge, the Ryvoan Trail, Ryvoan Bothy, An Lochan Uaine (Green Lochan), the right of way between Glenmore and Nethy Bridge, and the route into Ryvoan from Meall a’ Bhuachaille. - Other closed areas: Allt Mor car park, Allt Ban car park, the Lodge Trail, the eastern path on Meall a’ Bhuachaille, and access from the Sugarbowl towards Allt na Ciste, Ryvoan Pass and An Lochan Uaine. Lairig an Laoigh and Bynack More cannot be accessed from Ryvoan. - Reason and hazards: these closures are due to damage from the wildfire that broke out near the Ryvoan area of Glenmore Forest Park on 15 July 2026. The affected area has unstable trees and ground, with a risk of flare-ups and smoke as the fire continues underground; avoid the exclusion zone and follow on-site signs while safety checks, essential operations and restoration work continue. - Drone restriction: do not fly drones anywhere in the park while thermal-drone operations continue as part of the wildfire response. - Route planning: there is no obvious alternative route for the direct Glenmore–Nethy Bridge crossing. Long-distance walkers can use the route via Badaguish–An Slugan–B970–Tulloch, or the Old Logging Way to Aviemore, then the Speyside Way via Boat of Garten to Nethy Bridge. The Sugarbowl car park is open, and access to Chalamain Gap, Braeriach and Lairig Ghru is unaffected. Check current Cairngorms alerts before setting out.Official details
