Storm Boelo high winds

Storm Boelo will bring extremely windy weather to the Cairngorms; take extra care and limit time outdoors.

  • The Park Authority expects the very windy weather to last until Monday 26 October. A current amber wind warning for Highland is valid from 9pm Saturday 24 October to 9pm Sunday 25 October; strong westerly winds may bring widespread gusts of 60–70 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph in exposed coastal areas, and periods of heavy rain and frequent showers.
  • Being outside in high winds increases injury risk; stay indoors as much as possible. If outdoors, avoid walking or sheltering close to buildings and trees.
  • If driving, slow down, watch for high-sided vehicles on exposed roads and give cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries and buses extra room.

Check current Transport Scotland weather warnings before travelling.

Glenmore wildfire closures and dangerous trees

Wildfire damage has closed Allt Mor car park and the path to Sugarbowl/Utsi’s Bridge; keep out of the closed area.

  • The path may remain closed for some time while safety inspections and repairs are carried out to make the area and path safe.
  • Many dangerous trees remain in the burned area between the Ryvoan Trail and the ski road. Falling trees and branches are a risk, especially in windy conditions; stay on open forest roads and waymarked trails there.
  • The Ryvoan Trail (including access to An Lochan Uaine), the full Meall a’ Bhuachaille circuit and access to Ryvoan Bothy are open.
