Channel Islands alerts

Avoid closed routes and shorelines on Santa Rosa Island during recovery from the 2026 wildfire.

• Overnight use resumed October 14: Water Canyon Campground and backcountry beach camping in the Northwest and Southwest Quadrants are open. Backcountry camping in the Southeast Quadrant remains closed for the rest of the 2026 recreation season.
• Shorelines adjacent to the burned area, including areas near Johnsons Lee, Ford Point, and Southeast Anchorage, are closed.
• Torrey Pines Trail, Water Canyon upstream from the beach, and trails to the Southeast Quadrant are closed.

The Santa Barbara Island dock is closed; landings are restricted to the adjacent rocky ledge.

• Severe winter storm damage caused the closure, and repairs are not expected in the near future. The island remains open to public access.

Follow the closures and on-trail-only restrictions at Sandy Point and between China Camp and Cluster Point to protect island wildlife and sensitive resources.

• Sandy Point: The coastline is closed year-round to protect seal rookeries. All beaches and land areas within 300 feet inland are closed from 0.75 miles north to 0.85 miles south of the Sandy Point benchmark to protect sensitive resources.
• China Camp–Cluster Point: Stay on marked trails; off-trail travel is prohibited except at China Camp Corral. Northwest beach access to Cluster Point is prohibited. Dispersed camping on beaches northwest of Cluster Point and southeast of China Camp is allowed with a valid Southwest Quadrant camping permit.
