Watchman Overlook and the Summit

ClosureUpdated

Cleetwood Cove Trail closed for rehabilitation

Cleetwood Cove Trail is closed to the public during construction to rehabilitate the trail and marina. The project addresses critical safety issues, including rock scaling along the caldera wall, and is intended to ensure safe access to the lake and protect the environment; the public cannot be in the trail or lakeshore work area during this work.

  • No public boat tours will operate during summers 2026, 2027 or 2028 because the trail is closed during construction.

Check current park conditions before visiting.

CautionUpdated

Pinnacles Road restricted to hikers and bicyclists

Pinnacles Road is open only to hikers and bicyclists because of a road construction project; motor vehicles cannot use it.

  • The eight-mile road has heavy traffic and is narrow, with no shoulders; use caution when walking or biking.
  • It closes when East Rim Drive closes for winter on November 1 or earlier.

Check current park conditions before traveling.

“You're approaching Watchman Overlook, an easy stop for a clear view of Wizard Island without a summit climb. The paved viewing area is beside the parking lot, so I'd stop here even if you're keeping the walking short.”
