Food-conditioned bear in Arrigetch Peaks

Use a hard-sided Bear Resistant Food Container (BRFC) and heightened bear awareness in the Arrigetch Peaks area. - On August 13, 2026, a brown bear entered camps and food caches in Arrigetch Peaks and obtained food from a soft-sided, bag-type BRFC; this food-conditioning incident is why NPS recommends the added precautions. - NPS strongly recommends hard-sided BRFCs for all visitors to Arrigetch Peaks. Hard-sided BRFCs can be checked out at the Bettles Ranger Station. - Backpackers should maintain a high level of bear awareness and continue following best practices for camping in bear country. Check current park conditions before traveling.Official details
