Mackenzie Falls precinct closed during construction

The Mackenzie Falls (Migunang wirab) Precinct has no vehicle or visitor access during major construction works expected to finish by the end of 2026.

  • Works include a new viewing platform at the base of the falls, carpark and Bluff Lookout Walk upgrades, and safety improvements to stabilise rock and improve walking tracks.
  • The carpark and all precinct walking tracks are closed, including Broken Falls Walk, Mackenzie Falls Walk to the base from the carpark, Bluff Lookout Walk and parts of Mackenzie Falls River Walk; the carpark is a construction site with large machinery and stored materials.
  • From May 2026 until works are complete, the base of Mackenzie Falls cannot be reached via Mackenzie River Walk from Zumsteins Picnic Area.
  • Parking at Zumsteins Picnic Area will be limited, especially for buses and caravans on weekends and holiday periods.
  • Zumsteins to Fish Falls remains available as a 1.5–2 hour return Grade 3 walk; carry water and wear sturdy walking shoes because the track can be rocky, uneven and steep.
