South Rim Stage 4 water restrictions and overnight lodging closure
South Rim overnight accommodations are closed, and only dry camping is permitted under Stage 4 water restrictions. - Stage 4 began August 31 at noon because extensive flash-flood damage made the Transcanyon Waterline nonoperational; conserve water during your visit. - The park remains open for day use, with food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic, and Post Office remaining open. North Rim scenic-road vehicle restriction
Vehicles over 22 feet in total length cannot use Cape Royal Road or the North Rim Scenic Drive. - This includes RVs over 22 feet and vehicle-trailer combinations over 22 feet total length. - The restriction exists because these are narrow, windy roads with blind corners. Use another vehicle or make alternate plans for access to Cape Royal and Point Imperial. Check current park road conditions before traveling.Official detailsClosure
Flash-flood closures in the inner canyon and North Rim corridor
Do not enter the closed inner-canyon and North Rim areas. - Closed because of hazardous conditions caused by flash flooding, damage assessments, and repair and stabilization work: South Kaibab Trail below Tip-Off Point; Bright Angel Trail below the Tonto Trail intersection; the River Trail east of River Resthouse to the South Kaibab Trail junction; Black Bridge and Silver Bridge; Phantom Ranch, including Bright Angel Campground, the Phantom Ranch Canteen, and cabins; and the entire North Kaibab Trail from North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch, including Cottonwood Campground. - Also closed on the North Rim: Bright Angel Point, Widforss, Transept, and Uncle Jim trails; the Arizona Trail between North Kaibab Trailhead and W1-A (Old Entrance Road); and the western Ken Patrick Trail between North Kaibab Trailhead and Cape Royal Road. - The North Kaibab closure resulted from significant flash flooding in Bright Angel Canyon on August 29. Flash flooding can occur along the lower North Kaibab Trail and in the Phantom Ranch area with little or no warning, even when storms are not visible overhead. - There is no estimated reopening.
