ClosureUpdated

Green Gardens and Wallace Brook trail sections closed

Do not enter the closed sections of the Green Gardens and Wallace Brook trails.

  • The section of Green Gardens Trail from Steve’s Cove to Wallace Brook is closed permanently, and the entire Wallace Brook trail is closed. The decision was made in the interest of visitor safety.
  • The open Green Gardens section offers a 9 km return hike to the coast and provides access to the beach, sea stacks, sea cave and a primitive campsite.
  • At the coast, stay on the trail, avoid undercut cliff edges, watch for falling rocks, take care on slippery rocks and watch for rising tides.

Check current trail conditions before hiking.

ClosureUpdated

Fishing prohibited in specified Gros Morne waters

Do not fish in Gros Morne National Park waters closed to all fishing.

  • Closed waters include all waters of the Western Brook drainage basin, including Western Brook, Western Brook Pond and Stag Brook; Trout River Pond, Trout River and all tributary streams; Ten Mile Feeder; Deer Arm Pond within 90 metres of the outflow of Ten Mile Feeder; and waters 100 metres upstream and downstream from any fish-counting fence.

Check current fishing restrictions before fishing.

CautionUpdated

Stuckless Pond Trail bridge out

Avoid using the Stuckless Pond Trail at the stream crossing.

  • The bridge is out, and Parks Canada says trail use is not recommended at this time because of high water levels at the stream crossing.
  • Use caution and choose another hike until the crossing is addressed.

Check current trail conditions before setting out.

CautionUpdated

Swimmer’s itch reported at Trout River Pond

If swimming at Trout River Pond, avoid areas where swimmer’s itch has been reported.

  • The condition is caused by a small parasite that can burrow into the skin; Parks Canada says there are no serious human health concerns, but itching can be uncomfortable.
  • Reduce your risk by avoiding long periods in shallow water or near marshes and towel off immediately after leaving the water.
  • Watch for tingling shortly after leaving the water, small red spots where the parasite entered the skin, and itching as the spots become larger. Consult a medical professional for treatment advice if symptoms develop.

Check the current swimmer’s itch bulletin before entering the water.
