Ikara-Flinders Ranges alerts

Bunyeroo Gorge on Bunyeroo Gorge Road remains closed because recent heavy rain caused damage and repair works are pending.

• Brachina Gorge Road is open to 4WD vehicles only. All campgrounds are open, as are Appealinna Ruins, Arkaroo Rock, Razorback Lookout via the eastern end of Bunyeroo Gorge Road, Spirit of Endurance Trail, Boom & Bust Track, Wilkawillina Gorge Hike, and the walk from the Wilpena Visitor Centre to Old Wilpena Homestead.
• The outside trail to St Mary Peak and Mount Ohlssen Bagge Hike are open, but take care around loose rocks and minor erosion.
• The walking trail into Wilpena Pound is open only to Hills Homestead; take care because there is no vehicle access if you have an incident.
• Wilpena Resort is open. Other walking trails will reopen as water levels recede and are considered safe.
• The Heysen and Mawson Trails are open, but watch for branches and washout areas.

Twelve walking tracks and trails close nightly through 31 October 2026 for pest control operations.

• Affected routes are Trezona, Mount Sunderland, Rifle Range, Old Blinman, Jones Camp, Telegraph, St Mary Peak (outside trail), Cooinda, Pound Gap, Wilcolo, Boralinna and Loves Mine.
• In October, closures run 8:30 pm–5:00 am; all tracks and walking trails remain open outside these times.

Most of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park will close from 9:00 pm on 6 November until 9:00 pm on 9 November 2026 for public safety during a pest control and monitoring program.

• Remaining open: Hawker–Blinman Road, Hawker–Arkaroola (Wirrealpa) Road, Sacred Canyon Road, and Brachina Gorge Road and Bunyeroo Gorge Road for through traffic only—no stopping.
• Wilpena Pound Resort and its campground will remain open; all other campgrounds will be closed.
