The section of the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Trail along Burns Waterway is closed because erosional damage has made it unsafe.

• The section will remain closed while funding is sought for repairs; pier access remains open on both sides of the closure.

Multiple trails have closures or access limits from Marquette Greenway construction, storm damage, riverbank collapse, and flooding; check conditions and obey posted closures.

• Marquette Greenway construction: sections of Glenwood Dunes Trail are closed April–December 2026 and sections of Little Calumet River / Mnoké Prairie Trail May–December 2026; dates may shift as work progresses. The red Dunewood Trace route marked with yellow triangles is closed for construction—stay off it.
• Hobart Woodland Trail is closed indefinitely with no reopening date; the paved Oak Savannah Trail remains open. Heron Rookery Trail is closed for tree removal and rerouting because of riverbank collapse; it is expected to reopen in fall after mosquito activity decreases.
• Pinhook Upland Trail is only partially open: a tree strike destroyed the middle boardwalk, so the full loop is inaccessible; there is no replacement timeline. Dunewood Trace is also limited by persistent flooding west of the campground, which may prevent hikers from traversing its full length.
• Intermittent flooding affects Tolleston Dunes, Glenwood Dunes, Paul H. Douglas (Miller Woods), and Pinhook Upland. Even open trails may have damaged boardwalk handrails or other infrastructure; exercise caution. The park recommends West Beach Trails as an alternative.

Stair portions of Bailly / Chellberg Trail are closed through October 30, 2026, so avoid those sections while the boardwalk replacement project is completed.
