Lake Mead alerts

Government Wash Campground and 8.0 Mile Road are not yet reopened to vehicle access or overnight camping; non-motorized day use remains open.

• The closure is due to operational needs. The campground has no electrical hookups, permanent restrooms, potable water, or sewage facilities, so NPS says it cannot safely maintain full-time campground hosts during southern Nevada’s hot summer months.
• NPS anticipates reopening, but the current alert says it will be updated once a reopening date is set.

Houseboat launching at Echo Bay and the South Cove concrete ramp are closed; other vessel-launch options remain available at both locations.

• Echo Bay: Houseboat launching is closed while construction extends the ramp’s minimum safe elevation of 1,035 feet; the construction is scheduled for the remainder of 2026. Motorized and non-motorized launching remain open.
• South Cove: Low water has closed the concrete ramp. Use the primitive ramp 0.25 miles south via a park-approved road; motorized and non-motorized launching remain open there.
• Declining lake levels, caused by climate change and an unprecedented 20-year drought, have reshaped shorelines and made impacts to infrastructure, marina operations, landscapes, and visitor services increasingly challenging. Lake levels fluctuate; vessel operators are responsible for checking current levels and ramp conditions and exercising caution when launching or retrieving vessels.
