Lindavia (lake snow) biosecurity hazard
Lindavia is present in Lakes Rotoiti and Rotoroa; follow DOC’s cleaning and water-contact precautions. - The invasive alga causes lake snow, a sticky mucus that hangs below the surface of the water. - Ensure all your gear is completely dry for 48 hours before swimming or taking water from any alpine lake or tarn, including Rotomaninitua/Lake Angelus. - Use biosecurity cleaning stations at Coldwater Hut, Lakehead Hut and Sabine Hut to disinfect boots, socks, clothing, towels or drink bottles that are wet or damp from lake or river water. - Do not touch the water in Rotomairewhenua/Blue Lake or Rotopōhueroa/Lake Constance. Check the current Nelson Lakes conditions before travelling.Official detailsClosure
Rotoroa Route permanently closed
The Rotoroa Route is permanently closed; do not plan to use it. - The closure affects the route alongside the eastern side of Lake Rotoroa, between Rotoroa village and Sabine Hut. - It does not affect trampers on the Travers–Sabine Circuit unless they planned to end their trip at Rotoroa village. Check the current Rotoroa Route status before travelling.Official detailsCaution
Bridge removed on Sabine–D'Urville track
The bridge between Sabine Hut and D’Urville Hut has been removed, so trampers must cross a stream. - The bridge was removed at GR E1571366 N5359831; the stream is approximately 1 m deep at normal flow. - After rain, the stream may not be safe to cross. Do not cross if the stream is flooded, you cannot find safe entry and exit points, or you are unsure it is safe—turn back or wait for the river to drop. If in doubt, stay out. Check the current Sabine Hut track conditions before travelling.Official details
