Painted Desert Visitor Center closed for construction
The Painted Desert Visitor Center is currently closed for construction. Visitors can still use the surrounding Painted Desert Community Complex and other visitor-service locations. - The community complex at exit 311 off I-40 is open all year and retains a short loop walking trail, Tawa Trail trailhead, gift shop, gas station, postal drop box, picnic pavilion, public restrooms, and dog park. - The Painted Desert Inn at Kachina Point, 2 miles (3.2 km) from the north entrance at exit 311 off I-40, serves as the north visitor center with visitor information and orientation, museum and gallery space, an ice cream parlor, gift shop, desert vistas, access to the Painted Desert Rim Trail and Petrified Forest National Wilderness Area, and public restrooms. - The Rainbow Forest Museum in the Rainbow Forest Complex near the southern entrance provides visitor information, orientation, backcountry permits, paleontological exhibits, access to Giant Logs, Long Logs, and Agate House trails, a gift shop with limited snacks, a picnic pavilion, public restrooms, and a park movie at the gift shop.
