Hot conditions and a heat alert are active at Pinnacles; limit strenuous hiking to early morning and late evening and prepare for higher-than-forecast temperatures. - Temperatures in the High Peaks and Chalone Peak may be at least 10°F hotter than parking areas. - Actual park temperatures may be up to 6°F higher than National Weather Service forecasts, and rocky, exposed areas may be up to 10°F hotter than the actual temperature. - Carry at least 1 liter of water per hour of hiking and bring salty snacks, a hat, and sunscreen. - Know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness; in a heat-related emergency, get to a cool place and seek help immediately. Very high fire danger is active at Pinnacles; follow these fire restrictions. - Wood-burning fires and charcoal grills are prohibited. - Propane and gas stoves are allowed only for cooking food in designated campground and picnic areas. - Do not smoke on trails or park along roadsides. - Fireworks are always prohibited. Upper Bear Gulch Cave closed
Upper Bear Gulch Cave is closed; Lower Bear Gulch Cave and Balconies Cave are open. - The Upper Cave is closed for extended periods to protect the endangered Townsend’s big-eared bats that roost there; the colony is listed as a sensitive species by California. - Visitors may pass through the Lower Cave without turning back while the Upper Cave is closed. - Caves can also close because of flooding, rockfalls, vandalism, sensitive bat populations, or other emergencies.
