ClosureUpdated

Old Tocaloma/Platform Bridge closed to vehicles

Do not drive across the Old Tocaloma/Platform Bridge; it is closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice.

  • The bridge runs parallel to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at its intersection with Platform Bridge Road, about 2 miles east of Olema.
  • The closure is required because structural deficiencies make the weight of a vehicle unsafe to cross.

Check current road closures before traveling.

ClosureUpdated

Palomarin Beach Trail closed

Palomarin Beach Trail is closed to all visitors, employees, and residents until further notice; do not use the trail.

  • The trail is closed because unstable and failing sections have made it unsafe.

Check current trail conditions and closures before traveling.

CautionUpdated

Mount Wittenberg Trail closed to equestrians

Mount Wittenberg Trail is closed to all equestrians until further notice; keep stock off the trail.

  • The closure is due to a failed retaining wall damaged during the Woodward Fire that needs repair.
  • Keeping equestrians off the trail is necessary because the weight of stock will cause further damage to the area of the failed structure.

Check current temporary closures before traveling.

CautionUpdated

Year-round Abbotts Lagoon kite restrictions

Do not kiteboard within Abbotts Lagoon or fly kites on or from its shoreline.

  • These year-round restrictions protect threatened western snowy plover breeding areas because visitor disturbance can separate chicks from adults, preventing chicks from foraging efficiently, thermoregulating properly, and hiding from predators.

Check current Point Reyes closures before traveling.

CautionUpdated

Sport-harvested mussel quarantine

Do not harvest mussels for human consumption along the California coast through October 31.

  • The quarantine applies to sport-harvested mussels in bays, inlets, harbors, and along the coast because potentially dangerous biotoxins can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning or domoic acid poisoning.
  • The quarantine normally runs May 1–October 31 and may be extended if monitoring finds dangerous toxin levels. Commercially harvested mussels from certified companies are exempt.

Check California’s current shellfish advisories before harvesting or eating shellfish.
