Redwood alerts

Use caution on damaged Bald Hills Road and plan around Mill Creek and 44 Creek access restrictions.

• Bald Hills Road is open despite road damage; drive slowly, stay alert, and watch for cars crossing lanes to avoid hazards.
• Mill Creek Day Use Area is partially closed on weekdays, open to the public for day use on weekends, and gated each evening. A section of the multi-use trail along West Branch Road west of Rock Creek Road is closed temporarily because a bridge crossing failed.
• 44 Creek Bridge is closed because damage was identified by a Federal Highway inspection team. It is north of 44 Camp, about 7 miles south of Redwood Creek Trailhead and 1 mile north of the Tall Trees river crossing. Do not cross the ravine; crossing is dangerous and not advised. All trails in the area remain open, but the alternate route to 44 Camp adds at least 3.5 miles from Redwood Creek Trailhead; stop at a visitor center for more information.

Plan around closures and blocked sections on Boy Scout Tree, Alder Basin and Lyon’s Ranch trails.

• Boy Scout Tree Trail is partially open; a fallen tree blocks the trail 1.75 miles from the trailhead. Climbing over it is possible but challenging.
• Alder Basin Trail is closed for Redwoods Rising restoration work.
• Lyon’s Ranch Trail and connected trails/historic roads may close intermittently for prescribed burns October 22–26; expect smoke and firefighter activity from prescribed burns in the Bald Hills Area during this period.

Construction, downed trees and a bridge failure restrict three trails; plan alternate routes and obey closures.

• James Irvine Trail: Construction has closed the easternmost stairs connecting Fern Canyon to the trail; the western stairs remain open for Fern Canyon Loop. A smaller, passable tree is down about 1.25 miles before Fern Canyon at 41.39293, -124.05182.
• Miners Ridge Trail: Open only just past Clintonia Trail, where a large downed tree blocks the route; hikers cannot continue to Gold Bluffs Beach from this trail. James Irvine Trail is the best alternative.
• Dolason Prairie Trail: Open for its first 4.5 miles, then closed at Emerald Creek Bridge because of bridge failure. Emerald Ridge Trail is accessible only from Redwood Creek Trail or Tall Trees Trail.
