North Fork Road has rough sections
Use caution on North Fork Road because the unpaved road’s final section near the North Fork Trailhead has deep, wide ruts, and the last several miles are narrow with many blind curves. - High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended. - Low-clearance vehicles are not recommended. South Fork Campground and old trailhead access closed
South Fork Campground is closed, and vehicles cannot drive to the old trailhead parking area because South Fork Road access was repaired after damage from past floods and landslides but the old parking area remains inaccessible. - South Fork Road is open to public access, but it is unpaved; high-clearance vehicles are recommended. - The old trailhead parking area shown on maps is not drivable. - Trails in the South Fork drainage are not currently passable to stock. Mineral King Road construction closures begin September 8
Expect construction delays and temporary closures on Mineral King Road beginning September 8, 2026, because of active road construction on this narrow, curvy mountain road. Visitors must pass through the construction zone to reach the Mineral King area. - September 8–October 28: Monday–Thursday, expect delays of up to 30 minutes 7–10 a.m. and 4–7 p.m., with a full closure 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; there are no listed closures or delays before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. - Friday–Sunday, the road is closed 8 a.m.–7 p.m., with vehicle passthroughs at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Vehicles must be at a closure point at a passthrough time to be guaranteed passage; 7–8 a.m. has no listed closures or delays. - The schedule is tentative and subject to change based on conditions; active construction sites may move day to day, and campgrounds, trailheads, or private inholdings such as Silver City Resort may sometimes be in the construction zone. - There will be no delays or closures from noon Friday, October 9, through 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 13. - The construction is in the Mineral King area and does not affect visitors using the main Sequoia National Park entrance near Three Rivers, CA. - Mineral King Road closes for the winter season on October 28, 2026.
