Grant Grove trails and areas closed for prescribed burn

Some trails and areas around Grant Grove and the General Grant Tree are closed for safety during a prescribed burn and until they are cleared of hazards.

  • The burn is intended to restore and maintain the historical fire-return interval and reduce catastrophic-wildfire risk; prescribed burns also promote giant sequoia regeneration.
  • Smoke and flames may be visible; the National Park Service says this is normal.

Mineral King Road construction closures and delays

Construction work is causing scheduled closures and delays on Mineral King Road through October 28, 2026; visitors must pass through the work zone to reach Mineral King. The schedule is tentative and may change with conditions.

  • Monday–Thursday: delays of up to 30 minutes from 7–10 a.m.; full closure 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; delays of up to 30 minutes 4–7 p.m.
  • Friday–Sunday: no closures or delays 7–8 a.m.; the road is closed 8 a.m.–7 p.m., with vehicle passthroughs at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Be at a closure point at one of those times to be guaranteed passage.
  • Work sites may move daily, and campgrounds, trailheads, or private inholdings may be within the work zone. This work is in the Mineral King area, separate from the park's main areas, and does not affect visitors entering near Three Rivers.
  • Mineral King Road closes for the winter season on October 28, 2026.

Generals Highway weekday hazard-tree removal delays

Expect weekday delays of up to 30 minutes total on Generals Highway between Highway 180 and Giant Forest, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., while crews remove hazard trees; the highway remains open.

Crystal Cave Road closed for the season

Crystal Cave Road is closed for the season, so visitors cannot drive to the cave parking area; it is expected to reopen in spring 2027.

North Fork Road is open, but its final miles are rough, narrow, and winding; high-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended and low-clearance vehicles are not recommended.
