White Sands alerts

Drive through the Dunes Drive safety corridor without stopping or exiting; the Interdune Boardwalk is closed.

• The corridor spans mile markers 3–5.5. Stopping, parking, or exiting a motor vehicle is prohibited unless you have express written consent or are directed by a law-enforcement ranger; the area south of Dunes Drive is closed to foot, horse, and other traffic.
• NPS says the restriction is for public safety and supports recovery from a recent U.S. Air Force mishap in the park. The Boardwalk is closed because it is within the active corridor; visit the park visitor center for alternatives.

Backcountry camping is closed, and there is no overnight lodging in the park.

• NPS says the campsites are closed for rehabilitation; no reopening date has been determined.
