Zion alerts

Do not drink Zion in-stream water, submerge your head, or touch or ingest algae mats; cyanobacteria can produce harmful toxins.

• NPS lists Health Watch—check first for the North Fork of the Virgin River (including the Narrows, Pine Creek, Deep Creek, Kolob Creek, Orderville Canyon, and Emerald Pools), North Creek (including the Left Fork/The Subway and Right Fork), and La Verkin Creek (including Timber Creek and Hop Valley Creek), as well as connected canyoneering routes.
• Toxins can cause illness; young children and dogs are especially at risk. Keep dogs from drinking river water and supervise children near algae.

Check current water advisories before entering waterways.

Vehicles exceeding Zion–Mount Carmel Highway size or weight limits cannot travel between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance; measure your vehicle and plan an alternate route if it exceeds any limit.

• The limits are 35 ft 9 in long, 7 ft 10 in wide, 11 ft 4 in high, and 50,000 lb for a single vehicle; combined vehicles are limited to 50 ft total length (including a trailer no longer than 26 ft), with the same width, height, and weight limits. Measurements include mirrors, tires, and attachments.
• The restriction covers the entire highway section, not just the tunnel. Long vehicles cannot safely maintain their lane on tight curves and switchbacks; wide or tall vehicles cannot pass through the tunnel in a single lane, and vehicles over the weight limit exceed limits on four bridges. The limits also protect historic infrastructure designed for smaller, lighter vehicles.
• Oversize vehicles arriving at the South or East Entrance will be directed to turn around, except South Entrance visitors parking in the oversize lot (if space is available), visiting Zion Lodge with a valid reservation, driving the Scenic Drive during shuttle off-season, or camping at Watchman or South Campground when open.
