Hidden Canyon and Observation Point trails closed

Hidden Canyon and the East Rim Trail to Observation Point from Weeping Rock are long-term closed because of a large rockfall; do not enter these closed areas and choose an alternate hike. - The rockfall broke off Cable Mountain above Weeping Rock, hit the closed East Rim Trail, and sent smaller rocks, branches, dust, and sand toward visitors. - The current closure affects Hidden Canyon and Observation Point via the East Rim Trail from Weeping Rock. Stage 2 fire restrictions in effect

Stage 2 fire restrictions apply throughout Zion National Park because increasing fire danger and dry conditions are increasing the risk of human-caused wildfires. They began May 22, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. and remain in effect until rescinded by the Superintendent. - Do not set, build, maintain, attend, or use open fires anywhere in the park, including campfires and charcoal fires at Watchman Campground, South Campground, and Zion Canyon picnic areas. - Do not smoke in vegetated areas, except within an enclosed vehicle. - Do not discharge or use fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices. Petroleum- or liquid-propane-fueled cook stoves are allowed, and Lava Point Campground campers may have fires in established fire rings. - Violations may result in a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months. Large-vehicle restrictions on Zion–Mount Carmel Highway

Vehicles exceeding Zion’s size or weight limits cannot use the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance. These restrictions protect visitors and park resources because the historic highway has tight curves, narrow passes, old bridges, and a tunnel designed for smaller, lighter vehicles. - Measure your vehicle—including mirrors, tires, and attachments—before traveling. Single vehicles may not exceed 35 ft 9 in length, 7 ft 10 in width, 11 ft 4 in height, or 50,000 lb. - Combined vehicles may not exceed 50 ft total length, including a 26-ft trailer limit, 7 ft 10 in width, 11 ft 4 in height, or 50,000 lb. - Vehicles over the limits must reroute. At the South or East Entrance, follow staff instructions to turn around safely. South Entrance exceptions include the large-vehicle lot if space is available, Zion Lodge with a valid reservation, the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive during shuttle off-season, or camping in Watchman or South Campground once open. - The limits are needed because oversized vehicles cannot safely maintain their lane on tight curves, cannot pass through the tunnel in a single lane, or exceed the weight limits on four bridges; they also reduce the risk of damage to the historic highway.
