Bow Valley Parkway fall vehicle restriction
Public vehicle access is restricted on the eastern 17 km of the Bow Valley Parkway between Fireside Day-use Area and Johnston Canyon from September 1 through October 6. - The restriction supports a vehicle-free cycling experience; all non-vehicular travel is permitted, including cycling and walking. - Parks Canada and utility vehicles may still use the narrow road. Services are limited, so bring sufficient food, water and appropriate gear, and watch for service vehicles. Cascade Valley bridges out and Ink Pots washout
Use caution on Cascade Valley Trail and do not continue past the washed-out bridge on Ink Pots Trail toward Jo9 campground. - Cascade Valley Trail is currently listed as Caution because bridges are out; biking excluding e-bikes is allowed, and wet muddy sections are reported. - Ink Pots Trail is listed as Good before the bridge washout; stay on the trail and stop before the washed-out bridge. Lake Minnewanka campground closure and bear warning
Lake Minnewanka campgrounds Lm8, Lm9, Lm11, Lm20, Lm22 and Lm31 are closed, and bear warnings remain active on the surrounding trail sections. - The area closure and special caution are in place because of multiple instances of black bears making contact with tents in recent weeks. - The bear warning covers Lake Minnewanka Trail from the trailhead to Stewart Canyon, Stewart Canyon to Aylmer Pass Junction, and Aylmer Pass Junction to Devil’s Gap, plus Aylmer Lookout Trail and Aylmer Pass Trail. - Do not enter the closed campgrounds. In the warning area, secure all food, pet food and odorous items; keep tents and sleeping gear free of food odours; keep pets leashed and children supervised; stay at least 100 metres from bears; carry bear spray; and report sightings to Banff Dispatch at 403-762-1470.
