Great Western Highway closed at Victoria Pass
The Great Western Highway remains closed at Victoria Pass; use the signed detour via Main Street at Lithgow, Chifley Road and Darling Causeway at Mount Victoria. - Cause: stress fractures formed in Mitchells Causeway, and investigations found deteriorated 200-year-old fill had created voids and gaps; the road was closed for the safety of all road users. - During peak periods—Monday to Thursday 8:30–10am and 2–3:30pm, and Friday 8:30am–3:30pm—allow around an additional hour. Local traffic travelling to or from Hartley Valley should allow an additional 15 minutes to reach Lithgow and join the detour. - Expect heavier traffic and delays on detour routes, particularly during peak periods and weekends. Remote Kanangra routes difficult to navigate with little water
Remote routes in the Kanangra Wilderness Area, including the Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail, are difficult to navigate and have limited to zero water; plan only if you have suitable experience and equipment. - Heavy fire regrowth and flood damage mean some tracks are no longer visible, are difficult to navigate and take longer to traverse than expected. - Carry appropriate navigation and emergency equipment, including a personal locator beacon (PLB). Major Blue Mountains tracks and access routes closed
Many Blue Mountains National Park roads, fire trails and walking tracks are closed or restricted; do not enter closed areas and follow NPWS signs. - Cause: infrastructure repairs, upgrades, or wet-weather damage including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees; penalties apply for non-compliance. - Katoomba and Leura: Fern Bower is closed between Amphitheatre Track and Leura Forest until 30 October 2026; there is no Leura Cascades–Federal Pass access via Fern Bower and Leura Forest. Amphitheatre Track remains open. The northern Leura Cascades Track access is closed for Council upgrades; detour via Prince Henry Cliff Walk. Honeymoon Bridge is closed because of rockfall hazards. Glenraphael Drive is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive because of road subsidence; walkers and cyclists are permitted, but vehicles cannot reach the Golden Stairs trackhead. Lindeman Pass is partly closed because of a major landslide below Gladstone Lookout, and Roberts Pass is closed because of rockfall and landslide hazards. - Jenolan access and Mount Hay: Six Foot Track is closed at the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve boundary. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve, including the Caves Visitor Precinct and walking tracks, is closed until 31 December 2026 for major infrastructure repairs and upgrades, with no access to the reserve or Jenolan Caves. Mount Hay Road and access to Lockleys Pylon, Fortress Ridge, Fortress Canyon, Butterbox Track and Canyon, Mount Hay Summit and associated walking tracks are closed from 9 June to 17 December 2026 for fire-trail upgrades, with no vehicle or pedestrian access. - Wentworth Falls and Woodford: Part of National Pass west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing is closed because of a major landslide and ongoing risks. Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed for elevated-boardwalk repairs, with no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes. Valley of the Waters below Silvia Falls is closed because of rockfall hazards, and Lincoln’s Rock is closed. - Blackheath and Mount Victoria: Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed; the Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen remains open only to the NPWS boundary. Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed because of rockfalls and landslides; valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track. Govetts Leap Lookout, all walking-track access into Govetts Leap and the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre will be closed on Friday 11 September for hazard-reduction burning; NPWS gates on Govetts Leap Road close the evening of Thursday 10 September. Fairfax walking track is closed 11–12 September for the same burn. - Canyoning: The Juggler (Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall; canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.
