Great Western Highway closed at Victoria Pass

The Great Western Highway remains closed at Victoria Pass; use the signed detour via Main Street at Lithgow, Chifley Road and Darling Causeway at Mount Victoria. - Cause: stress fractures formed in Mitchells Causeway, and investigations found deteriorated 200-year-old fill had created voids and gaps; the road was closed for the safety of all road users. - During peak periods—Monday to Thursday 8:30–10am and 2–3:30pm, and Friday 8:30am–3:30pm—allow around an additional hour. Local traffic travelling to or from Hartley Valley should allow an additional 15 minutes to reach Lithgow and join the detour. - Expect heavier traffic and delays on detour routes, particularly during peak periods and weekends. Businesses in Lithgow, Hartley Valley and Mount Victoria remain accessible by all vehicles. Check current Victoria Pass closure and detour information before travelling.
