Virginia Parkway closures and detours
Follow posted detours and avoid these closed Virginia sections. - James River Bridge area: Parkway closed MP 63.5–63.9 for bridge rehabilitation; detour signs are in place from MP 61.4 to MP 64. - MP 115–120: closed between VA Route 24 (Washington Avenue) and US Route 220. MP 112.4–115 is open, including access to Explore Park on Roanoke River Parkway, and MP 120–121.4 is open, including access to Mill Mountain Parkway from both directions. - Roanoke Mountain Loop (MP 120.3): closed until further notice. North Carolina Parkway construction closures
Use the signed detours and do not enter these active construction closures. - Deep Gap Bridge (MP 274.3–276.5): fully closed for bridge repairs; the signed detour runs from MP 269.8 to MP 276.5. - Boone Fork Overlook (MP 299.9) to Rough Ridge Overlook (MP 302.8): closed for the ongoing Great American Outdoors Act Project, beginning July 13, 2026; a signed detour route is in place, and both overlooks are accessible from one direction. Helene recovery closures in North Carolina
Do not enter the closed Parkway sections or recreate there; access and recreation are prohibited as marked. These closures and facility restrictions are related to Hurricane Helene, whose heavy rain and wind caused downed trees and debris, facility damage, landslides, weakened structural integrity, and loss of road segments along the Parkway. - MP 317.5–324.7: closed; recreation of any kind is prohibited. - MP 324.7–327.5: closed; recreation of any kind is prohibited. MP 327.5–330.9 is open, including Parkway access to the Orchard at Altapass from the south. - MP 333.9–342.1: closed; access of any kind is prohibited. MP 342.1–344.2 is open. - MP 344.2–355.3: closed; recreation of any kind is prohibited. - Linville Falls Campground and Picnic Area and Craggy Gardens Picnic Area are closed for Helene-related damage.
