North Carolina Helene-related closures

Avoid the closed Parkway section from MP 344.2–355.3; recreation of any kind is prohibited there.

  • Hurricane Helene caused severe Parkway damage, including landslides and loss of road segments; final Helene road repairs are underway from MP 344 to 355.
  • Linville Falls Campground and Picnic Area are closed for a Helene-related closure. Crabtree Falls Campground is closed; the Crabtree Falls Picnic Area is open, but hiking at Crabtree Falls is prohibited due to Helene-related damage.
  • USFS Road 63 (Stoney Fork Access Road) is closed at the USFS gate until further notice.

  • James River Bridge (MP 63.5–63.9): closed for rehabilitation; detour signs direct traffic from MP 61.4 to MP 64.
  • Roanoke Mountain Loop (MP 120.3–120.4): closed because a landslide and road failure damaged the outbound lane.
