Navigation is simple thanks to deep red waymark posts dedicated to the loch circuit. The southwest side tends to follow broader tracks; the northeast side feels more “path-like,” with occasional roots, sand, or puddles after rain. Highlights include strolls along the unique sandy freshwater beach and constant glimpses of the surrounding peaks mirrored in the water. Keep an eye out for red squirrels in the pines and waterside birds like dippers, wagtails, and herons near inlets and burns.
Facilities and Logistics
You can start from any of the shoreline car parks; the watersports car park on the east end is a popular launch point. There’s a modest parking charge, and seasonal toilets and a small café are available near the beach/watersports hub. The loop is family‑friendly and mostly level, but expect a few uneven, sandy, or muddy stretches that aren’t ideal for wheelchairs and some strollers.
