Flood damage closes Walnut Canyon road and trails

Walnut Canyon Desert Drive and several backcountry trails are closed because extensive damage from the August 2022 historic flood still requires major repairs. The main park road to the visitor center and cavern is open.

  • Walnut Canyon Desert Drive (Loop Road): closed; when repairs will begin and how long they will take is unknown.
  • Closed trails: Guadalupe Ridge from the visitor center area to the Slaughter Canyon Trail junction, Rattlesnake Canyon, and Juniper Ridge.
