Flood-damaged road and trails remain closed
Walnut Canyon Desert Drive and three trail sections remain closed because of extensive damage from the historic August 2022 flood. - Walnut Canyon Desert Drive (also called Scenic Loop Road) is closed; the park is developing engineering options to harden washed-out stream crossings and ridgeline sections and continues resource-protection processes and funding requests. Repairs have no known start or completion date. - The closed trails are Guadalupe Ridge from the visitor center to Slaughter Canyon Trail, Rattlesnake Canyon, and Juniper Ridge. Juniper Ridge remains closed because its trailhead access uses Scenic Loop Road. - The main park road to the visitor center and cavern is open. Other trails listed by the park as open include Old Guano, Slaughter Canyon, Yucca Canyon, Ussery, Double Canyon, and Guadalupe Ridge from the west park boundary to Slaughter Canyon Trail. Check current park conditions before traveling.
