The East Everglades Day Use Area is closed to all public use from SW 168 Street westbound to SW 237 Avenue, including the entire roadway of SW 237 Avenue.

Gulf Coast wilderness sites closed or restricted

Closures and restrictions affect several Gulf Coast wilderness areas and sites.

  • Hog Key: Camping is open, but the middle of the key is closed.
  • Pavilion Key: The interior is closed to protect vulnerable resources; the small campsite on the north end remains open for use by wilderness permit.
  • Johnson Key Chickee, Shark Point Chickee, and Little Rabbit Key Ground Site: Closed for maintenance.

Ongoing roadwork along the park’s northern boundary on U.S. Highway 41/Tamiami Trail may cause delays of up to 15 minutes.

Halfway Creek trail impassable at northern end

Halfway Creek is not completely passable; do not plan a through-trip from the L 3 marker to the L 1 marker.

  • The trail is accessible from Sea Grape Drive in Big Cypress south toward the HC 1 marker.
  • To complete a through-trip, head west at HC3 / L 15 and follow the L markers. After crossing the “lake,” look for L 14; continue to L 5 or L 6, then head west to exit by Everglades City.

Review current park conditions and canoe and kayak trail information before setting out.
