Roadwork may delay U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail travel

Allow extra time on U.S. Highway 41/Tamiami Trail: ongoing roadwork may cause delays of up to 15 minutes. - The work is raising the road along the park’s northern boundary for Everglades Restoration benefits. - Watch for personnel, equipment, and slowdowns. East Everglades Day Use Area closed

Do not enter the East Everglades Day Use Area: it is closed to all public use because construction operations with heavy machinery are underway. - The closure covers the park’s northeastern boundary from SW 168 Street westbound to SW 237 Avenue, including the entire roadway of SW 237 Avenue. Check current park conditions before traveling.Official details

Halfway Creek trail impassable at northern end

Do not plan a through-trip on the L 3-to-L 1 segment of Halfway Creek: that section is impassable. - The trail is accessible from Sea Grape Drive in Big Cypress south toward the HC 1 marker. - To complete the through-trip, head west at the HC3/L15 marker and follow the descending L markers. - After crossing the “lake,” look for L14, continue to L5 or L6, then head west to exit near Everglades City. Review canoe and kayak trail information and current park conditions before setting out.Official details

Closure

Wilderness areas and sites have partial or full closures

Several wilderness destinations are closed or partially restricted; do not plan to use the closed areas or sites. - Hog Key on the Gulf Coast: Camping is open, but the middle of the key is closed. - Pavilion Key: The interior is closed to protect vulnerable resources; the small campsite on the north end remains open for use by wilderness permit. - Closed for maintenance: Lostman’s Five Ground Site, Johnson Key Chickee, Shark Point Chickee, and Little Rabbit Key Ground Site.
