Crater Road lane closures near Haleakalā

Expect single-lane closures on Crater Road (Route 378) between mile markers 0 and 10, on the approach to Haleakalā National Park, Monday, October 26–Friday, October 30.

  • Roving striping work is scheduled 7 a.m.–5 p.m.; traffic will be alternated through the open lane.
  • Emergency guardrail repairs will also close one lane southbound at mile markers 2.5–2.7 and northbound at 9.8–10, weekdays 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.; traffic will be alternated through the open lane.

Entry and swimming prohibited at ʻOheʻo Pools

Do not enter or swim in the Pools of ʻOheʻo; view them from the Kūloa Point Trail.

  • The pools are closed to entry because of safety concerns: flash floods and sudden rock falls can occur at any time in Kīpahulu. Entry and wading in streams are not recommended; obey posted signs and stay out of closed areas.

Sunset entry may be limited by summit capacity

At sunset, vehicles may be turned around at the Haleakalā Summit entrance when capacity is reached because of high traffic volume.

  • An online pass does not guarantee entry at sunset; arrive 3 hours before sunset for timely access.
