National Park Inclusive Playground

Overview

This is the park’s big, free, fully fenced playground in the Demesne, a short stroll from town. Enter through the Port Road gates opposite St. Mary’s Cathedral and you’ll find a spacious play area beside the River Deenagh, with lawns and easy paths radiating into Killarney House & Gardens.

What You’ll Find

• Lots of kit for different ages: multiple swings and slides, a speedy metal slide, and a small zip line noted by visitors.
• Seating dotted around and room to spread out for quick picnics.
• A rugby pitch and simple calisthenics/fitness equipment just beyond the fence, handy for older kids or a quick workout while little ones play.

Facilities & Nearby

• Toilets are located right at the playground.
• More toilets and baby‑changing are available at Killarney House & Gardens’ Visitor Centre.
• Deenagh Lodge café sits by the cathedral-side gates for drinks and snacks in season.
• Posted playground hours are typically 8:00 AM–7:30 PM; there’s no admission fee. Some facilities operate seasonally.

Getting There & Parking

• Walk in via the Port Road gates (opposite St. Mary’s Cathedral) to reach the playground in minutes.
• Driving? Use the larger Beech Road Public Car Park and enter the Demesne from there; on‑street spaces on Port Road are limited and fill quickly.

Rules to Know

Dogs must be on a lead. No BBQs or campfires. Recreational drone use isn’t permitted. Please follow Leave No Trace.

Best Time to Visit

Mornings before 10 AM are the calmest. Late morning through early afternoon is the peak window, especially on weekends. If you’re timing a coffee run, pair an early play session with Deenagh Lodge when it’s open. Light is softest early and late; midday brings the biggest crowds.
