Tucson Mountain District road closures

Several Tucson Mountain District roads are closed; follow posted closures and use McCain Loop to bypass the Kinney Road closure.

  • Bajada Loop Drive, including all of Hohokam Road and Golden Gate Road, is closed to public use because flash flooding damaged the roads. The closure will be lifted when repairs are complete, the area is safe to reenter, and closure signs are removed.
  • Kinney Road is closed from the eastern intersection of McCain Loop to the Desert Museum October 1–November 24; use McCain Loop as the alternative route.

Vehicle break-ins reported at trailheads

Vehicle break-ins have occurred at King Canyon Trailhead and other park trailheads; secure your vehicle and valuables.

  • Hide valuables or consider taking them with you, secure your vehicle, and report suspicious activity.
  • Call 911 to report criminal activity, or contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department non-emergency number at 520-351-4900.

Hazards in Rincon Mountain burn areas

Stay on trails and use extra caution in high-elevation Rincon Mountain areas burned by the two 2020 fires; fire damage can leave unstable ground and other hazards.

  • Stump holes may conceal weak, unstable ground; fallen pine needles or ash can make trails slick, and fire-weakened trees may still fall.
  • During rain, watch for flash flooding, rolling debris, and erosion in burned areas.
