Shenandoah alerts

The Old Rag Trailhead main parking lot is closed to vehicles and pedestrians for infrastructure improvements; use the existing overflow lots.

• Work is expected to be completed by November 2026.
• Old Rag hikers—including those using the Saddle, Ridge, and Ridge Access trails—must obtain a $2 day-use ticket online before arrival from March 1 through November 30, in addition to the park entrance fee. Tickets are valid only for the reserved date and do not guarantee parking; cellular service at the fee station is limited.
• The park offers 800 tickets daily: 400 are released 30 days ahead and 400 five days ahead.

Backcountry camping is prohibited on the Appalachian Trail from Lewis Mountain to Big Meadows, and the Naked Creek backcountry zone is closed.

• The Appalachian Trail camping restriction follows recent wildlife interactions and is in place out of an abundance of caution; the trail remains open to hikers.
• Naked Creek is closed until further notice because of an ongoing investigation.
