Pros & cons

PROS

  • Varied spruce–fir, blueberry, granite, and coastal-view scenery
  • Finishes at Blueberry Hill with access to Schoodic’s southern viewpoints

CONS

  • Point-to-point logistics require a shuttle, second vehicle, or seasonal transit
  • Rocky tread and sustained climbs are more demanding than the short distance suggests
  • Campground and Blueberry Hill parking can be limited
PARKING

Start at the signed trail access near the group sites in Schoodic Woods Campground; parking may be limited or subject to campground rules. The south end is Blueberry Hill Parking Area along Schoodic Loop Road.

CAUTION

Plan return transport before setting out because this is point-to-point. Expect rocky, uneven footing, sustained and steep sections near Schoodic Head and The Anvil, exposed granite, and rapidly changing coastal weather. Carry water; dogs must remain leashed where permitted.

Schoodic Woods to Blueberry Hill is a point-to-point traverse across Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Peninsula. From the trail access near the Schoodic Woods Campground group sites, follow Buck Cove Mountain Trail through spruce–fir forest and highbush blueberries, take the connected section of Schoodic Head Trail, and descend Anvil Trail to Blueberry Hill Parking Area. The visitor route is about 4.1 miles one way and usually takes 2–2.5 hours. Expect a moderate hike with rocky, uneven tread, sustained climbing, exposed granite, and views near Schoodic Head and The Anvil. This is a traverse, not a loop or out-and-back, so arrange a shuttle, second vehicle, or seasonal transit between the two ends before starting. Dogs must remain leashed where permitted. Carry water and layers; coastal weather can change quickly.
