Guide
Schoodic Woods Campground is a developed, 89-site campground on Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula and the only campground on the park's mainland section. Choose it when you want to stay on Schoodic: Bar Harbor and the main Mount Desert Island area are a 60–70-minute drive away, and there is no shuttle between the peninsula and the island.
All 89 sites are wooded; 78 have electric hookups, but the available utilities vary by site. Reservations are required in advance. The campground is seasonal, operating from the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day. Potable water, restrooms and the dump station are seasonal, and there are no showers. Sites have ADA picnic tables and fire rings, though campfires are not allowed at the hike-in sites. There is no camp store or food service; Winter Harbor has groceries and supplies.
The six-mile Schoodic Loop Road is one way and passes views of lighthouses, seabirds and forested islands. More than eight miles of hiking trails and eight miles of bike paths make the campground a practical base for exploring. Arey Cove Road leads to Schoodic Point, a rocky, wind-exposed headland with views toward Mount Desert Island.
