A quick, classic welcome shot before you dive into the scenery. The Northeast Entrance Sign sits just off I‑90 (Exit 131) on SD‑240, where the Badlands Loop Road begins. It’s essentially a photo stop beside the staffed entrance station—snap your picture, sort your pass, and you’re rolling into the good stuff.
Expect the signature park sign backed by open prairie and the first hints of eroded buttes. From here you immediately join the paved Badlands Loop Road, the ~28‑mile scenic drive with overlooks and pullouts sprinkled along the way.
There are no facilities at the sign itself—no bathrooms, water, or food. The entrance station next door handles fees, maps, and basic info. The nearest restrooms are at the Door/Window/Notch area about 2.6 miles inside the park.
You might occasionally spot bison or other wildlife near the roadway here. Keep your distance and stay in your vehicle if large animals are present.
