“A knee-high evergreen near the tree line may be much older than it looks. Up there, cold, drying winds can kill exposed new growth.”

“…Loved the commentary as you drove thru. I’m sure the app can do more than I know but the tips were very helpful. I’m gonna use it when we go to Banff next month.”

Silverhorn Creek is a 45-site, unserviced Parks Canada campground on AB-93, 56 km north of the Highway 1/93N junction. It suits an overnight on the Icefields Parkway when you want a mountain-and-creek setting, not hookups or full-service camping. Every site is reservation-only, and the campground operates seasonally.

There’s no electricity or showers, and cell coverage drops out across the Icefields Parkway campgrounds. The campground has outhouses, firepits, food lockers, a picnic shelter, greywater sinks and solar-treated drinking water. That water is for people, not RV tanks; RV fill and a sani-dump are at Waterfowl Lakes, 6 km north, while that campground is operating. Firewood is provided for fire-permit holders. There’s no food service here, so bring meals. Most motorhomes and trailers under 20 m can fit, with a maximum of six people per site.
