Starting from Leura Cascades Picnic Area in the Katoomba/Leura precinct, the Leura Cascades – Fern Bower circuit is about 4.5 km total (loop) and typically takes 2–3 hours at a steady pace. Expect a Grade 4 experience with sustained stair work, uneven surfaces, and a few rough patches. It’s not pram or wheelchair friendly, and pets aren’t permitted.
What You’ll See
The route threads past the photogenic Leura Cascades, then dives into lush rainforest where mossy sandstone, towering eucalypts, and dense fern bower create a cool, shaded amphitheatre. Lookouts along the cliff line—including Majestic Lookout—open to sweeping Jamison Valley views and sightlines toward Mount Solitary. On damp days, the cascades and nearby Bridal Veil Falls area put on a show, and the filtered light is perfect for waterfall photography.
