Pros & cons
PROS
- Sandy, beach-like pool right beneath impressive sandstone cliffs
- Well-signed from the Visitor Centre—easy first-time navigation
CONS
- Very popular on warm weekends; limited parking fills fast
- Mostly stairs make the return sloggy for tired little legs
Park at the Glenbrook Visitor Information Centre car park (Glenbrook entrance), then follow signs for Jellybean Pool; you’ll cross the access road a couple of times. Vehicle entry fees apply.
After heavy rain the creek can be dangerous—swim only in calm conditions and supervise kids. Return climb is via stairs and uneven surfaces; not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Overview
A quick, family-friendly wander from the Glenbrook entrance drops you into Glenbrook Gorge and the much-loved Jellybean Pool. Expect a well-signed, formed track with steps, a short but noticeable descent to the water, and a modest climb back to the car. Distance is about 1 km return (0.6 miles), with most people taking roughly 30 minutes not counting swim or lounge time.
Trail Experience
From the Glenbrook Visitor Information Centre car park, follow the “Jellybean Pool” signs downhill, crossing the access road a couple of times. The track is maintained and straightforward, but it’s mostly steps and some uneven natural surfaces near the water. Your payoff is a sandstone-walled gorge with a sandy, beach-like edge and calm, clear water—ideal for a dip, a lilo float, or a lazy picnic.
Scenery, Flora, Wildlife
Classic Blue Mountains eucalypt bushland frames the walk, with sandstone cliffs hemming the gorge. Keep an ear out for gang-gang cockatoos’ creaky calls and watch for rainbow lorikeets flashing through the canopy; birds of prey like kestrels sometimes patrol overhead.
Best Time to Hike
You can walk this year-round. Warm to hot days make the pool irresistible, but they also bring crowds. For a quieter experience (and easier parking), arrive early on summer weekends or aim for weekdays. After rain, water levels and currents can change—skip swimming until conditions settle.
Getting There & Parking
Start at the Glenbrook Visitor Information Centre car park just inside the park’s Glenbrook entrance and follow the signs downhill. Standard park entry fees apply for vehicles at this entrance. Facilities and picnic areas are nearby at the top.
Tips
- Bring swimwear, a towel, and sturdy shoes for the steps and sandy/rocky edges.
- Pack a picnic and plenty of water; shade comes and goes with the day.
- Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs due to stairs.
Cautions
The return is short but uphill via steps. The creek can be hazardous after heavy rain—supervise children closely and only swim in calm conditions.
