Why it’s special
Fishercap is famous for moose. The shoreline and shallows are regular feeding spots, and many visitors report sightings with surprising consistency. Even if the moose don’t show, the still morning water and peak reflections make this a satisfying photo stop.
Wildlife
Moose are the headline act here, especially at dawn and dusk. Scan the far ends of the lake and quiet coves, and keep your distance—moose are large and unpredictable. Keep an eye on surrounding slopes and forest edges too; people occasionally spot mountain goats, deer, and even bears in the broader area. Carry bear spray and stay alert.
Getting there
Reach Fishercap via the Swiftcurrent Pass Trail from the parking area by Swiftcurrent Motor Inn/Many Glacier Campground. The lake is only a few minutes’ walk from the main path, making it one of the easiest wildlife-viewing stops in the region.
On-site amenities
There are no services at the lakeshore—no restrooms, tables, or water. You’ll find parking and facilities back at the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn or the nearby campground area. Plan accordingly.
Make it a longer walk
If you’re warmed up and want more, continue up the same trail to Redrock Falls and, if energy allows, Bullhead Lake. Fishercap makes a great first stop on that progression.
Best time to visit
Come at first light or the last hour of the day for your best odds of moose and for mirror-still reflections. Summer is popular, so those early and late windows help with crowds too. The path is listed as open year‑round and can be rewarding in any season; just dress for conditions.
