Many Glacier Campground

Many Glacier Campground is a developed frontcountry campground at the end of Many Glacier Road on Glacier National Park's east side, about 4,500 feet above sea level. Its 109 individual sites and one group site are tucked among Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine and quaking aspen. Reserve ahead: all sites are reservable, with no first-come, first-served sites. This is a practical base for the area's hikes, though the trees leave you with few mountain views from camp itself.

The main reason to camp here is how close you are to the east-side trail network around Swiftcurrent. The campground is used as a base for routes toward Iceberg Lake and Grinnell Glacier, as well as overnight backpacking. East-side trailheads start higher than those on the west side, which can shorten the climb to the high-country views. Seasonal evening ranger programs take place at the campground amphitheater.

The access roads are paved, but individual campsites and driveways vary in size. Only 13 sites can accommodate an RV or truck-and-trailer combination up to 35 feet, and many sites are too small for slide-outs or towed rigs over 21 feet. Check the site's dimensions before reserving if you have a large vehicle. The NPS lists no accessible campsites, although the restrooms and amphitheater are accessible.

You are roughly 12 miles from Babb and more than 20 driving miles from the St. Mary entrance, so stock up before turning onto Many Glacier Road. The campground has no cell reception or internet; NPS reports limited cell coverage in Babb. The forest gives most sites partial shade, and wildlife such as moose, bighorn sheep and bears may be seen nearby. Grizzly and black bears frequent area trails, so secure food in the provided lockers and follow bear-safety rules.
