Sitting by the lake and next to the campground, Two Medicine Ranger Station is the natural launch point for exploring this quieter corner of the park. Expect classic east‑side winds, big skies, and fewer crowds than the main corridors. It’s a good spot to grab current trail conditions, orient yourself, and set off quickly.

Why stop here

This is the trailhead hub for standout hikes like Scenic Point and easy family strolls nearby. With the lake, boat dock, picnic areas, and the campstore all close, you can plan a full day without moving the car far. The vibe here is unhurried—great if you want views and wildlife without the circus.

Trails and things to do from here

• Scenic Point: A strenuous out‑and‑back right from the ranger station with sweeping valley and prairie views.
• Running Eagle (Trick) Falls: A short, flat crowd‑pleaser.
• Aster Falls/Aster Park: Moderate hiking to a waterfall and a viewpoint over the valley.
• Twin Falls and Upper Two Medicine Lake: Often paired with the seasonal boat shuttle across the lake; hike farther for extra solitude.
• Dawson–Pitamakan Loop: A challenging classic for experienced hikers.

Wildlife

Early and late in the day, watch for moose and beavers near the lake and wetlands. Bighorn sheep and mountain goats work the surrounding slopes, and both black and grizzly bears frequent the area. Carry bear spray (even for short walks), keep your distance, and store all food properly.

Amenities and logistics

• Restrooms: Vault toilets serve the day‑use area near the lake and trailheads. The campground has flush toilets and running water in peak season; outside that window, expect vault toilets only.
• Water: Fill bottles at campground spigots in summer or bring your own—don’t count on water at the day‑use restrooms.
• Services: Seasonal campstore, scenic boat tours, and rentals on the lake. There’s almost no cell service or Wi‑Fi in the valley, and no gas stations inside the park—fuel up before you arrive.
• Parking: Lots near the boat dock can fill; overflow is by the picnic area or near the campground. Don’t park along the road shoulder.
• Getting around: There’s no free park shuttle to Two Medicine. A paid regional shuttle runs seasonally between nearby hubs; check schedules before you go.

Best time to visit

Late spring and early fall bring pleasant temps, fewer people, and great light for photos. In any season, mornings and late afternoons are prime for wildlife and easier parking. Winds can howl here even in summer—layers are smart.

A little history

Two Medicine was an early visitor hub before the big road over the divide, and rangers once patrolled immense, roadless country from here. The lakeside chalet hosted a presidential address in the 1930s and now serves visitors as a general store.
