Twin Falls Trail

Twin Falls Trail is a 7-mile out-and-back from the North Shore Trailhead in Two Medicine to two cascades below Pumpelly Pillar. The park lists the hike as 3.5 miles each way with 75 feet of elevation gain; allow about four hours for the walk and a stop at the falls. This is an easy-grade outing whose main cost is time on the trail. The route follows the wooded north side of the lake toward Dawson Cutoff, then joins the south-shore path and a short falls spur. Pets are not allowed on park trails.

A paid concession boat across Two Medicine Lake drops hikers near the South Shore approach. From that landing, Twin Falls is about 0.9 mile each way, so this is the better choice if you want the waterfalls without the longer shore walk. The path starts with a short boardwalk over boggy ground, then follows mostly level forest trail. It crosses Two Medicine Creek and a smaller tributary before the falls spur.

Twin Falls is two separate streams dropping down the wooded slope on Pumpelly Pillar. One cascade is more open; brush and fallen wood partly screen the other. From the end of the spur, a wide phone frame can take in both, though you will not get an equally clear view of each.

The main trail continues beyond the Twin Falls spur toward Upper Two Medicine Lake. An open meadow about a third of a mile farther on brings views of Rising Bull Ridge, Mount Rockwell and Lone Walker Mountain. That extension adds distance and is not part of the Twin Falls route described here.
