Hamersley Gorge Lookout is a purpose-built deck above the lower visitor area, in the north-west of Karijini. A 300 m return walk from the car park gives a panoramic view without the steep descent to the pools below. It suits a shorter visit or anyone who wants to see the gorge without taking the rougher walk to the water. Hamersley is farther from the park’s other gorges, so plan it as its own stop.
The view is all about the colored rock bands, bent and buckled into sweeping folds down the gorge walls. From the deck, frame the curves with the platform rail in the foreground. Waterfalls and pools lie below, but their flow and reflections vary with water conditions, so the gorge can look quite different from one visit to another.
