Kootenay alerts

Watercraft and angling are prohibited on every waterbody in Kootenay National Park until March 31, 2027, to reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS), including whirling disease.

Repairs to the Sinclair Creek Rock Tunnel and rehabilitation of the retaining wall at Sinclair Canyon require construction closures; expect alternating single-lane traffic on Highway 93S and peak-period delays of up to 45 minutes.

• The Superintendent’s order says the closures are to ensure visitor safety during highway construction. Closed during construction are the sidewalk access from Lower Juniper Trail Parking to Sinclair Canyon, sidewalks on both sides of Highway 93S through the canyon, the southbound parking area immediately north of the canyon, the northbound parking area about 150 m north, and the pullout near the old West Gate entrance.
• The Redstreak Connector Trail from the Hot Springs Trail junction to Highway 93S and pedestrian access through the canyon, including the viewpoint, are prohibited to entry, public use, traffic and travel through November 30, 2026.
