Overview

Founders Park is Islamorada’s all‑in‑one playground on Florida Bay: 45 acres of beach, a true Olympic‑size pool with splash pad, and an armful of courts and fields. It’s the easy Keys stop when you want sand for the kids, real lanes for a workout, and a shady tiki for lunch—all in one place.

What You’ll Find

• Beach zone: shallow water on the bay, tiki huts, picnic tables, grills, outdoor showers, sand volleyball, and playgrounds.
• Ron Levy Aquatic Center: 50m x 25yd pool with diving boards and a zero‑depth splash pad.
• Sports and more: five lighted tennis courts, five dedicated pickleball courts (plus marked multi‑use court), basketball, soccer/baseball/softball fields, a golf driving cage, walking/fitness trails, an outdoor fitness area, and a dog park with separate small/large areas. An amphitheater and great lawn host community events, and there’s an on‑site marina.

Fees and Hours

• Park entry (non‑residents): Adults $8; Youth/Senior $5. Pool add‑on: Adults $3; Youth/Senior $2. Summer weekends/major holidays: Adult $15; Youth/Senior $10. Active or honorably discharged U.S. military and families enter free with ID. Credit cards accepted (2.75% convenience fee).
• Park grounds: sunrise to sunset. Aquatic Center and office generally Mon–Fri 8:00 am–6:00 pm; Sat–Sun 10:00 am–5:00 pm.

Families who want a mellow, shallow beach day, lap swimmers, and anyone itching for courts and fields. Cyclists on the Overseas Heritage Trail use it as a reliable stop for water and restrooms.

Crowd and Practicalities

Weekends—especially late morning to mid‑afternoon—are the busiest. Weekdays stay calmer. Bring charcoal if you plan to grill, and note the strict beach rules: no alcohol, no glass, and no dogs (there’s a separate dog park). The bay bottom can be rocky and the sand soft—water shoes help.

Setting and Seasonal Notes

The park sits along mangrove‑lined shores within the Upper Keys corridor. Winter is prime for spotting coastal bird life in nearby habitats, and breezier days make the trails and open lawns especially pleasant. Do pack bug spray—multiple visitors report mosquitoes ramp up around sunset.

Best Time to Visit

Aim for weekday mornings for space and mellow vibes. On weekends, arrive before 10 am to snag a tiki and beat the rush; plan pool time during posted hours and remember the park closes at sunset.
