Big Sur River Footbridge

This is the seasonal wooden footbridge over the Big Sur River that Group Camp users walk across to reach their campsites. It’s a practical connector, not a photo‑op landmark—handy if you’re camping with a crowd and just want an easy river crossing.

Don’t confuse this with the better‑known seasonal river bridge at nearby Andrew Molera State Park; that one serves beach trails there. This bridge serves Pfeiffer Big Sur’s Group Camp only.

Getting There

Group campers park along the west side of Highway 1, then walk about 1/4 mile to camp—crossing this footbridge en route. Expect a straightforward stroll through redwoods with the river alongside.

What You’ll Find Nearby

At the far side (in Group Camp), you’ll have the usual campground basics: potable water, picnic tables, a fire ring, and flush toilets. There are no showers in Group Camp. If you want a hot rinse, use the token‑operated showers located in the park’s main campground; tokens are sold at the entrance kiosk and at select bathroom locations.

Wildlife

The river corridor is lively: keep an eye out for dippers bobbing on mid‑stream rocks and belted kingfishers patrolling for small fish. Deer are common around the meadows and redwoods.

Best Time to Visit

Best is simply “when it’s in.” The bridge is installed seasonally, so check current status with park staff before planning logistics for a group trip. If it’s out, plan your access accordingly.
