Refugio y Camping Dickson is a remote mountain refuge and campground on the shore of Lago Dickson in Torres del Paine’s northern sector. It is one of the O Circuit’s overnight stops, with a proper camp, beds, hot showers, and meals this far into the park. There’s no vehicle access. From Serón, expect roughly 18–19 km and six to seven hours on foot; plan around the longer estimate. If you aren’t trekking the circuit, this isn’t a quick detour.

The usual operating season is October through April, weather permitting. Secure your place and check current route access before setting out; both the route and accommodation are seasonal.

What staying here meansThe site combines bunk accommodation with tent camping.

The site combines bunk accommodation with tent camping. Bathrooms are shared and include toilets and hot showers. Campers have a wind-sheltered communal cooking area, and cooking is restricted to that designated space. The dorm rooms aren’t heated. Power is limited to set hours, and there’s no cell signal or internet, so sort out bookings and messages before leaving connected areas.

An onsite restaurant serves meals with a vegetarian alternative, and the small shop carries basic groceries, snacks, drinks, and some mountain gear; there’s also a bar. It’s useful for topping up, but don’t treat it like a town supermarket. Plan your main provisions ahead, and arrange meals in advance if you want to rely on the restaurant.

The camp sits in a greener corner of the park, with views over Lago Dickson toward Dickson Glacier and the Paine peaks around the lake. The glacier descends from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Park records put its average retreat at 17 meters a year between 1897 and 1943, a historical measure rather than a current rate.

A remote night has tradeoffsThe long walk and lack of road access are part of the stay.

The long walk and lack of road access are part of the stay. On still, low-wind evenings, mosquitoes can be bad around camp. Expect communal facilities and a backcountry setting, not hotel comforts.
