Guide
Panorama Point Overlook is a roadside pull-off in Badlands National Park, with a wide view across the eroded ridges toward the White River Valley. Keep it for a long look without committing to a hike; the site is listed as wheelchair accessible. If you are also stopping at Big Foot Pass, expect similar scenery and decide whether a second panorama adds enough to your day.
The view drops over the formations toward the White River Valley. For a photo, include the nearest ridges as well as the distant valley; the close cuts show the landscape’s texture and give the broad view some depth. The name is literal: Panorama Point is known for its wide sweep across the Badlands formations.
The bands below were laid down over millions of years. Shallow seas, rivers, and wind deposited layers from about 75 million years ago until roughly 28 million years ago. Around 500,000 years ago, the Cheyenne and White Rivers began cutting the channels and canyons visible today. The Badlands are still eroding, at an estimated inch per year.
