Convoy Point Jetty

Overview

Convoy Point Jetty is the park’s easy, go-to mainland walk—perfect when you don’t have a boat. It starts right by the Dante Fascell Visitor Center and heads out along a manmade jetty into Biscayne Bay. Expect a gentle, out-and-back stroll that’s more about views and vibes than racking up miles.

What You'll See

The route hugs mangroves, riprap, and open bay water before reaching the end of the jetty. Interpretive signs frame the landscape so you actually learn what you’re looking at, and benches let you linger when something catches your eye. Surfaces are a mix of boardwalk and smooth gravel/sand. It’s roughly 0.25 miles one way, so you can walk it in 10–30 minutes depending on how much you linger.

How to Do It

Start at the Compass Rose mosaic inside the Visitor Center, then follow the self-guided stations out to the jetty. It’s straightforward, signed, and designed as an introduction to a park that’s 95% water. Pair the walk with time in the Visitor Center to round out the experience.

Wildlife

This is a mellow birding spot. Keep an eye out for Magnificent Frigatebirds overhead and Yellow-crowned Night Herons along the edges year-round. In winter and spring, scan the rocks for Spotted Sandpipers. Summer brings the calls of Mangrove Cuckoos and Black-whiskered Vireos in the nearby mangroves. In the water, you might spot fish and crabs, and occasionally dolphins farther out.

Best Time to Visit

Go early morning or late afternoon for cooler temps, softer light, and better bird activity. Midday can be hot and bright, and the trail’s exposure means you’ll feel the sun and wind.

Know Before You Go

• Bring water, snacks, sun protection, and bug spray—there are no concessions on the jetty.
• Weather moves fast on the bay. If storms or lightning roll in, clear the jetty promptly.
• It’s short and sweet; treat it as a scenic warm-up before tours or other activities.
