Jetty Trail

Overview

Starting at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center at Convoy Point, the Jetty Trail is a flat, ultra-easy out-and-back along Biscayne Bay. It’s short—0.5 miles total (0.25 miles each way)—and mixes boardwalk with smooth gravel/sand. Expect benches to pause on and interpretive signs that make this more than just a walk.

What You’ll See

The route hugs mangrove-lined shoreline with constant bay views. You’ll likely spot fish darting in the shallows and plenty of birds; the jetty ends at a Colonial Bird Protection Area, which underscores how good this spot is for casual birdwatching. Manatees are occasionally seen from shore here, which is a treat if you’re patient.

Experience and Vibe

This is the park’s most scenic mainland stroll—perfect if you’re waiting for a boat tour, traveling with kids, or just want a gentle, beautiful walk without getting on the water. It’s calm, photogenic, and low effort. The tradeoff: it’s over quickly, so come for the views and the wildlife, not for mileage.

Surface and Accessibility

About half the route is boardwalk, the rest is smooth gravel/sand. It’s not an officially designated accessible trail, but many wheelchair users can traverse it with possible assistance on the sandy section. Strollers do fine in typical conditions.

Best Time to Hike

Open and enjoyable year-round. Early morning or late afternoon brings softer light and better odds for wildlife. Summers are hot and humid—bring water, sun protection, and insect repellent. Winter is more comfortable, but bug spray is still smart.

Tips and Notes

Pair the walk with a visit to the visitor center exhibits. Restrooms are in the visitor center, not on the trail. Foot traffic only; keep to the trail at the bird protection area and use the benches to linger without blocking the path.
