Overview
Set at the south end of Aviemore, High Range Caravan Park tucks into birch woodland at the foot of Craigellachie National Nature Reserve. It’s the sweet spot between nature and convenience: quiet, green pitches with birdsong at night, yet a short stroll to shops, pubs, and buses. The family-run High Range complex has been welcoming travelers since 1976, and the care shows.
Facilities
Expect 61 hard-standing pitches with electric hook-up and TV aerial points, plus a spotless service block with toilets, showers, laundry, and indoor dishwashing. Practical extras include a motorhome service point (grey water and chemical waste), multiple water points, secure bike storage and a repair station, and a dedicated BBQ/outdoor dining area. There’s an on-site Italian restaurant/bar (La Taverna) and even rapid EV charging in the main car park. Security cameras cover the service block, and there’s a children’s play park for little legs.
Nature & Wildlife
You’re right beside Craigellachie’s birch woods and heather slopes—prime territory for red squirrels, deer, and a rich mix of birdlife. Owls are a common nighttime soundtrack. For a classic loch-and-castle scene, Loch an Eilein is a short drive away and a good bet for waterfowl watching.
Why it works
It’s rare to find a campsite that blends a peaceful woodland feel with true walk-to-dinner convenience. Add in the clean, well-run facilities and easy access to the B970 “ski road,” and this becomes an excellent base for everything from low-key forest walks to high mountain days.
What could be better
Two things to keep in mind: weekday daytime renovation work may add some background noise, and WiFi is stronger in certain areas than others. Depending on your pitch, you might hear occasional road noise.

- Peak summer and school holidays fill quickly—book ahead. Weekdays are calmer than weekends.
- For quiet wildlife moments, aim for early mornings and late evenings in the adjacent woods.
