Overview
A small but super useful hub at the Lafayette Place Campground entrance. This is where you check in, grab maps, and get current trail advice for Lonesome Lake, Franconia Ridge, and the Franconia Notch Recreation Path—without leaving the campground.
What You'll Find
- Registration desk in the lodge plus a compact camp store stocked with basics and firewood.
- An information cabin near the entrance with details on hiking routes, safety, and the park’s natural/cultural history.
- Comfort stations (bathrooms) and coin‑operated showers in season; one bathhouse has laundry. There’s also a payphone for emergencies given the spotty cell service.
Season, Hours, and Basics
- 2025 operating season: May 16–October 26. Typical office hours run roughly daytime to early evening; expect limited/no staffing outside those hours.
- In the off‑season, the campground is self‑service; comfort stations are closed and water is shut off after mid‑October.
- Campsites are first‑rate for location and register here; the standard in‑season rate is noted at $35/night.
Why Stop Here
You get practical, trail‑savvy guidance before big days on Franconia Ridge or an easy family hike to Lonesome Lake. Staff can brief you on current conditions, bear safety, and the best ways to use the paved recreation path that threads through the Notch.
Policies and Good‑to‑Know
- Pets are not permitted anywhere in Franconia Notch State Park.
- Carry‑in/carry‑out trash policy.
- Don’t bring out‑of‑state firewood—buy it at the store.
- Black bears are active in this area; store all food and scented items in your vehicle.
Best Time to Visit
Swing by early morning before a hike or late afternoon after you’re back—those windows are quieter and perfect for quick questions. Summer weekends and foliage season are busiest, so plan a little extra time at the desk then.
